Phonics Course at DITHI
How Phonics Works for Our Children
At DITHI, phonics is taught as a life skill, not as a shortcut for school exams. Our approach focuses on helping children become independent readers and writers, confident enough to read any book of their choice and express their thoughts freely in writing.
🔤 Our Method
We begin with letter sounds, not letter names. Children are gradually guided from:
Sounds âžśWords âžśSentences
This systematic process helps children understand how reading and writing actually work. They learn to blend sounds to read words and segment sounds to write them.We cover 42 core letter sounds, but we do not follow a fixed or rushed timeline. Each child progresses only when they are developmentally ready.
📊 Assessment & Readiness
Children are grouped appropriately and assessed continuously. Before introducing new sounds, we ensure that each child:
•Reads confidently
•Writes accurately
•Participates actively
•Demonstrates sound understanding
This growth happens gradually, through consistent practice and repetition—not overnight.
By the time children complete the 42 sounds:
•They become confident, fluent readers
•They actively enjoy reading and writing
•They typically master 500+ words and 300+ sentences
📚 Levelled Reading Program
After completing the sound phase, children move into levelled reading, designed to strengthen fluency, comprehension, and expression. We follow four structured levels, with 18 books in each level:
Red Level âžś 18 books
Yellow Level âžś18 books
Green Level âžś 18 books
Blue Level âžś18 books
At each level, children work on:
•Reading comprehension
•Creative writing
•Dictation
•Sentence construction
Simultaneously, we continue introducing higher and advanced sounds to strengthen decoding skills.
🌟 Advanced Reading & Mastery
As children progress toward the Blue Level, new sounds are still being introduced. Once they enter the final Blue Level, we begin working on tricky words. At this stage, children are:
•Ready to read books independently
•Confident in choosing reading material
•Able to write their own ideas freely
This milestone marks course completion, and children become eligible for Phonics Course Certification.
⏳ Why Continuity Matters
Breaking the phonics sequence can affect long-term reading success. A child may appear to read well initially, but gaps in the process often lead to struggles later. At DITHI, we emphasize consistency and patience, because true literacy develops only when every stage is respected.A child is truly independent when they can:
•Read anything they choose
•Write confidently without fear
This is possible only when children are given time to achieve each milestone without interruption.
đź•° Phonics as a Life Skill
Just as school education spans many years, phonics—when taught correctly as a foundational skill—also requires time. It is not a short-term program and typically takes a minimum of one year to complete meaningfully.
